GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Director of Pupil Personnel, provide support and training to staff serving students with disabilities on the autism spectrum with behavioral needs. Support highly structured special education teachers throughout the division.  This is an 11 month position.

 

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Provide training and support to Special Education Staff in the development of Behavior Support. Plans and supports Behavior Intervention Plans, Functional Behavior Assessments.
  • Provide training and support to general education teachers regarding Autism and positive behavior strategies.
  • Establish and maintain data measurement and collection systems for students receiving interventions.
  • Assist with training of paraprofessionals in applying principles of behavior management.
  • Provide training and support for Special Education Staff in strategies for working with children on the Autism Spectrum and in Positive Behavioral Strategies.
  • Participate in Individual Education Program (IEP) team meetings for students who are on the Autism Spectrum and present behavioral concerns.
  • Gather and provide annual data for the SISNA report.
  • Provide special education case management services as needed.
  • Serve as a Safety Care Trainer
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to travel to multiple school sites. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Hold a valid Virginia Teaching License; BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) certification preferred.

Expertise and experience in working with students on the Autism Spectrum. Skilled in ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) or Behavior Interventions.  Experience in providing training and support to teachers, staff and parents. Needs excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
