Description:

Performs work assisting with the transportation of students to and from schools, and other special events. Assists disabled and impaired students getting on and off the bus or in and out of a van including lifting, folding, unfolding, positioning, and securing wheelchairs and other restraint devices; maintains safe conditions during operation. 

 

Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a high school diploma or GED. Have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with students and drivers; concern for the well-being of, and desire to assist general education students and/or students with disabilities; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with fellow workers, students, and parents; sufficient strength and agility to move, lift, and secure students and equipment and assist students with entering and exiting a bus, van or another vehicle in regular and emergency situations. Among the essential functions of this job are regular attendance, and punctuality in reporting to work.

 

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

Providing help to the school bus driver in maintaining discipline; assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus.
